Power Plays...go figure!

Only on a night when the Ducks would have about 5 million Power Play opportunities would Teemu Selanne go down after only 14 seconds on the ice. Only on this night, would the injury be from his OWN SKATE!

Reports from the course of the evening are that Selanne received 8 stitches and will be returning to Anaheim for an MRI tomorrow. The positive news is that they are not sure if he will return to the road trip or not. If you ask me, the fact that they don’t know for sure is a good indication that there is a possibility, however slim that may be, of his return. I hate that there is a possibility of his being seriously injured. There isn’t a guy I love seeing on the ice more than Mr. Selanne (okay, there are a few others too)…even if he’s got to suffer playing with…ugh!

Okay…so now that the bad news of the evening is over…let’s talk JONAS HILLER! That guy…that guy is really stepping up! His big moments came during the 3rd period when he had to come up big on a 5-3 opportunity the Ducks handed to the Oilers with Ryan Getzlaf and Scott Niedermayer in the box (2 guys who should NOT be spending ANY time in the box if you ask me)! 51 saves on the night .962 SV%? Can you complain about that? Well, yea…the Ducks shouldn’t be giving up 53 shots, but when they do…don’t you love to see Hiller stop 51 of them? Then in the Shootout! Beautiful! How can you NOT love that guy!? Seriously! HILLER! Awesome! Remember the team taking the goalie out to dinner…It’s Hillers turn! He BETTER be one of the stars of the night on the NHL homepage!

Overall on the night…there were far TOO MANY POWER PLAY OPPORTUNITIES…FOR BOTH TEAMS!
Too many missed opportunities, to many given opportunities! TOO MANY! It was bound to catch up with them. Eventually Edmonton was going to connect on a pass and get something by. On top of that, it meant that there would be NO opportunity for the Ducks to catch up. Spending so much time killing penalties is absurd and nearly impossible to win hockey games that way. It was all Anaheim in the 3rd…all Anaheim in the penalty box.

PATHETIC!

HILLER=Fantastic! (Seriously LOVE that guy!)

One thing that has been too much of a trend for the Ducks so far this season is that they tend to STOP PLAYING in the 3rd. (Wow, I didn’t think I was going to post such a bitter blog tonight what with a win and all…). I’m getting sick and tired of fearing the 3rd period. Wondering if they are going to be able to hold on to the lead. They didn’t tonight. Got the win yes, but just barely. They are asking too much from one guy and they aren’t giving enough in return. It's clear that the Ducks are in desperate need of some scoring. From every line!

I’d also like to point out that Getzlaf got an assist tonight on the Corey Perry goal. The goal was a beautiful set of passes from Getzlaf to Bobby Ryan who spun it around to Perry. I think you can even see Perry say something about how beautiful the play was. Anyway, it means that again, the Ducks get a win when Getzlaf gets a point.

Now it’s time to get him A LOT more points…in the All Star Voting! He’s currently about 21,000 votes TOO MANY behind Patrick Kane and only 51,000 votes ahead of Jonathan Toews. Let’s go fans…time to pour it on! (Anyone think that Crosby fella is going to break 1,000,000?)
