Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a fantastic new year celebration, minus the Ducks loss.
I've decided...it’s time for more positivity! I'm not really making this a new year resolution, just a life resolution.
With that in mind, I was hoping the Ducks would help me out last night…
Despite the loss, I think they did.
Overall, I would say it was one of the better games the Ducks have played so far this season. The game was especially physically, plenty of hits and the Ducks controlled the puck well for much of the game.
The bounces just went the other way.
For the most part, they were moving the puck well, making nice passes and really taking care of business in front of the net on both ends. Clearing lose pucks well (there were a few exceptions and nothing a few broken sticks didn't help) and working hard along the boards. There were a few frustrating moments where the guys were unable to get set up, but for the most part, the game on a whole was well done.
The "no goal" for Corey Perry was most disappointing. With the game as intense as it had been to that point, the crowd was just itching to see the puck get into the net. The call was questionable to say the least.
The positive effect of the "no goal", the Ducks held their own and killed off the following 5 on 3 opportunity for Columbus. The only negative was their inability to get the puck back into the net again.
Giguere looked fabulous. The glove was sharp and he was quick across the crease. I hope he just builds on this game.
Also fabulous was the rookie goaltender on the other end of the ice. Steve Mason picked up his third consecutive shutout. Basically, if there is no one on the ice looking for their first career NHL goal (the Ducks are good at giving those guys the opportunity to get that done), then the Ducks give the rookie goalie an opportunity to look like a God in net. In addition the Ducks gave up a goal to Craig MacDonald, a guy who was so fresh from the AHL that, according to Adam Brady's live game blog, the guy wasn't even on the teams roster yet (it wasn't his first goal though, he's actually been around the league for quite some time)!
On an interesting note, Bobby Ryan looked like he had an additional appendage all night long...in the form of a Blue Jacket. It seemed like every time he touched the puck there was someone on his hip, pushing and shoving. He's playing hard though and pushing through. 5 SOG and 5 hits...I'll take it!
He's really going to be something special isn't he? (Watch out Ryan Getzlaf...keep taking penalties like that and someone is bound to jump into your place!)
Anyway, like I said, it's time to move forward in a positive manner (in ALL aspects of life, right?)!
GO DUCKS! Lets build on a hard fought game and play another one just like it...with a few more Ducks goals though!
Also, not much time left...let's keep the Ducks in the line-up! 'Ducks' to 81812 and VOTE ONLINE!
