That's right...the Ducks still have 13 guaranteed games remaining!
GUARANTEED! That's exciting right? No?
How about how the fact that they played pretty solid last night? What, small victories aren't enough for you here in March?!
My best friends are Disney Volleyball Champs! (I KNEW there would be a positive to today's post...I could just feel it) That was very exciting for them, and made for a good ending to the Sunday evening. So Congrats to Ramon and Mini!
Okay...so back to the Ducks.
2008-2009 can only be described as frustrating. In so many ways. Obviously we've all been watching a fabulous group of guys struggle night in/night out on the ice. But I really think that last night was the ultimate. The Ducks are still out shooting. Yea, even with Ryan Getzlaf on the ice, they're still taking more shots than their opponents. Last night, the Ducks out shot San Jose 34-30, Jonas Hiller is for all purposes outstanding, and yet the Ducks don't get a bounce at the other end. Frustrating. Watching players who should be giving more, are able to give more, and are just coming up empty. Insanely Frustrating. Putting 34 shots on net and getting ZERO? Frustrating. Watching an unfortunate goal bounce off of ex-Duck Travis Moen's stick (and likely NEW-Duck Ryan Whitney's hand) and THAT lame goal be the game winner. Frustrating. Remembering that Travis Moen is the king of getting lame goals (the ultimate game winning goal in 2007 Stanley Cup Finals goes to Moen...even though he didn't put it in the net himself). Frustrating. Knowing the Ducks' chances slip further and further away from making it to the post season with each game. Frustrating. Feeling like these guys have given up. INEXCUSABLE.
I do think they played hard last night. Did they deserve two points? Maybe one.
Hard doesn't always get you the two points. It obviously doesn't even get you one.
The Ducks need more than that right now.
But hey! 13 guaranteed games left! YEA BABY!
So I think we all watched as Corey Perry slammed his stick into the back of Evgeni Nabokov's leg during the game. He was then pulled away like a dog from the collar by several San Jose players, but apparently that little stint has caused alot of heat from both sides. Here's a quote from OC Register from Corey Perry:
“Everything was over,” Perry said. “I was still lying there on my knees. All of a sudden, Nabokov just turned and kicked me. He rolled onto his side and kicked me with his right leg. He hit me with his toe.”
Apparently Nabokov didn't think it was that big of deal (who's surprised...really?). He felt the play was over and that he was just trying to get up. But ultimately, this was my favorite part:
“It’s over with, so who cares?” he said. “We got the two points, and we’re going home.”
OUCH! He really knows how to kick a Duck when he's down...literally!
It kinda makes me wish I knew how to skate...and puck handle...and play hockey...nevermind, I just want to kick him back myself.
Maybe the Ducks will be reminded of this the next time they play the Sharks in just a few weeks.
Maybe...that game wont be as frustrating.
I've said it before and I'll say it again.
NOW, FOREVER, ALWAYS...
GO DUCKS!!!
